GI – behind the scenes

Developing the Gamealogical Insititute – a behind-the-scenes Journal

Stories, illustrations and a newsletter – interrupted with rambling

Wow, I really need to watch the rambling…
I had lunch yesterday with Chris Fason, who is currently doing art work for us, and I’m afraid I may have rambled his ears off.

We met so that I could pay him for the the logo work he did (very nice work too) and discuss what was needed next. Essentially it is for some pencil and ink sketches that could pass for being from a travel journal. We spoke about some of the look and feel I wanted and how it would relate to both the next Dodger Collingwood story and our next game release.

That all could have been done in about 10 minutes.
(note: to avoid “rambling” go to the last paragraph. yeah I added this note after I saw how long this entry had become!)

The problem is that I dont have the GI world all mapped out yet and so I find myself getting into circular discussions. Does the game release schedule drive the newsletter content? is the newsletter only to promote the GI site and games or does it have it’s own merits (intrinsic value) as well? Which begs the question of whether I should consider the newsletter as “marketing” work or “Development” work?

I know that it is worthwhile to look at where I want to be months from now, but that is not always a discussion that I need to have with everyone. I know this can be very frustrating for listeners who really just want to know what they need to do next and just want to know that I have a clear vision of where we are (I am) going.

It is going to be a challenge to find a long stretch of many hours when I can really create the “master plan”. In the next 10 days, besides making sure I am taking care of everything at my “real job”, I have to finish work I have from a monthly side job, create the May newsletter and get ready for PlayOnCon Memorial day weekend. The Con prep includes assembling a whole new batch of games (thats a good thing – it means the games are selling), booth helpers and preparation for the 2 roundtables I am going to do/host. Oh, did I forget to mention that I am to have a free print-n-play game ready to send to everyone who has signed up for the newsletter?!

See, I’m rambling now. This post is supposed to be about getting the newsletter started and produced. So, by the end of the week I hope to have some sketches, the Dodger story completed, and the basic format/L&F determined.

Of course that begs knowing how I can use discount codes through paypal and…
